Love is just a four letter word. It holds a very simple meaning and that is to adore.
You can adore anything. Your dog, cat, mouse, phone, a significant person or even yourself.
Love is that simple. :) But it will mean a lot more to you when you begin making sacrifices for something or someone you adore. Then love truly amplifies. You'll have more words to describe love like fondness, intimacy, devotion, desire, attachment and et cetera. It gets very complicated when you put in effort to something so simple.
When you love someone, you DEVOTE your time and effort into that particular person. You put in your DESIRE to form an ATTACHMENT to someone you are FOND of and you crave for INTIMACY be it emotionally or sexually. When you love someone, you ADORE. You make an effort and a choice to stay in love. You. Amplify. Love.
Now if we put this forward to ourselves and understand why love fail so often in our lives you'll hear many depressing definitions like "Love is painful", "Love is just a game" or even the classic one "Love does not exist"
I recently found myself stumbling into a long distance relationship. Yes, I saw it coming but I never thought it would affect me so negatively. I took almost a week to really learn how to love again. I'll be honest, I thought my relationship was going to fail at that moment. There is no possible way that I can form INTIMACY when he is physically not by my side. Adding on we are 14 hours apart. Everything is a challenge. DEVOTION, DESIRES, ATTACHMENT, FONDNESS, INTIMACY, ADORATION all became something so feeble and so unattainable. I found myself unconsciously crying in the middle of the night because :-
1. Love is Painful
2. Love is just a game
3. It does not exist - it is all just for a good time
If by these definitions, it will tell me that my relationship will fail. Which means all my time and effort on this person that I love is actually intangible. Logically, I should end it before I waste my time even further right?
Now ladies, this is the time the bible comes into action being a great encouragement :)
1 Corinthians 13 : 4-7
Love is patient and kind ; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things
Love bears all things. Love gives hope to all things. Love endures / sustains all things.
Love is painful, but when you choose to love you learn to ENDURE all things.
Love is just a game. But when you choose to love you have HOPE that you will have a future together. You have trust and you have an ambition to succeed together.
Love does not exist. But when you choose to be together, you BELIEVE that you will last.
Today marks the 6th day since he has left my side. I struggled but as soon as I found this verse, I understand the need for this lesson. Even if in the end, I am proven wrong. I am thankful that my broken heart is finally healed.
Love is not a feeling. You do not get over it or even lose it all at once. Love is simple. Just pure adoration. You never stop loving. You only forget how to.
Let love be simple. Let love be that four letter word.
