Warm Bodies.Yes,the title is really appropriate. It really gives you the feeling of a gentle and warm zombie. This is probably the one movie that have caught me into total surprise.I mean I have never expected such a different approach of a zombie apocalypse.Seriously, this is a good movie. There are so many meanings and morals and the more you watch it,the more it pops out.I'll go into it one by one.
As far as I know, zombies apocalypse were mostly stereotyped as the END because mostly people die, rise up as a walking dead and turn other people into the dead too. This movie started out simply similar but different because for the first time,a zombie has thoughts too.
The main zombie was named R in the movie.R has this passion to communicate. He was the narrator of the movie and in the movie,he did mention that probably before the apocalypse happened people were happy having company with each other. This is a key point people,I have to acknowledge that the director pointed out a very very good scene that constantly reminds me.There was a scene where R imagines the world before the apocalypse.Jonathan Levine pointed out that people were all so into their phones.R narrates that maybe before the apocalypse was better where people enjoy each others company and are able to communicate. In the movie,R has a best friend too named M. :)
The climax of the movie started when R meets Julie for the first time when he was attacking for brains.I think this movie was aiming for a more soft approach compared to the other zombie movies because R saved her from being eaten by other zombies.Believe it or not,in this movie the zombies talk.
R's talking also becomes better the more he lingers around Julie.Julie slowly sees the difference in R and begins to relax around him. Also its because R is very warm and nice to her.But nice is nice,Julie still wanted to return home.
This is where I would say that this movie has a very dry sense of humour when Julie escapes from R and was caught by other zombies.R saved her again of course, that's when she meets M, R's best friend in the zombie world.I think I should say in this movie, zombies have a heart and are quite loyal to friendship. At that moment, the bonies came.Bonies are zombies who no longer look human. They have absolutely no heart.Thats why I say this movie has quite of a good sense of humour. Zombies have different gangs too.. HAHA!
R managed to escape with Julie with the help of M but they had to pass by a group of other zombies.Because Julie trusts R,she held his hand.I think that triggered all the other zombies to feel slightly human as well. That also triggered me to "Awwwww" like a fan girl. It makes me feel that Julie does not mind being R's friend. Also means, 1 Point to R! Haha..
They plan to drive home but then stranded due to the weather. They hid in Julie's old house. Later that night, R revealed to Julie that he ate her boyfriend's brains.Of course that made Julie very sad so she left R once morning arrived. That was also the time when R finds himself dreaming.Zombie fact : Zombies do not sleep,so they don't dream but R did. :))
Heartbroken,R went home.On the way he saw M, his best friend. M told him that the other zombies are seeing glimpses of their past and also the bonies are looking for him and Julie. You should be surprise how M was able to tell R all that, it means they are all turning humans again! With all the hope that R have , he went all the way to Julie's house without getting caught. Zombies have brains too okay.. :P If you understand the movie,he knew the way through the wall because of Julie' boyfriend's brains. He saw glimpses of Julie's boyfriend's memories. I guess thats how he knew the way.
He met Julie and also her best friend, Nora. Nora is the down to earth character. She met R and then found out that the zombies were all slowly getting better. Its funny how Julie believes R instantly without any doubt.I guess when R treated her well she really trust him after that. Then there is this funny part where R gets some make up on so he could explain to Julie's dad. Say whatever you want but R was really good looking in the movie with or without make up. Nicholas Hoult, love your face to bits!
Things didn't go as planned,Julie's dad didn't believe or agree with Julie and threatened to blow R's head.Nora the sensible one, lost her sense and pointed a gun on Julie's dad, told R and Julie to run.
They ran like mad to meet up the other zombies who were ready to fight with the bonies. In a way to help mankind instead of eating them. When they were ready all the zombies started fighting the bonies while R and Julie ran for their lives. Julie's dad of course went on with soldiers to fight the zombies. Its a crazy moment, when the bonies chase after R and Julie till there was no more other ways to run unless jump into the pool.
Again,R was so unconditionally in love with Julie,he hugged her like a shield protecting Julie while landing into a pool.R hit his head when he was in the pool, fainted I guess while Julie was fine. When they were finally alright, they kissed. Again I am fangirling "Awwww". That kiss was actually so powerful that it brought R back to life.Instead of grey eyes,it turned blue and what more?
The next thing anyone knew,Julie's dad shot him at the chest.Since he is human now,he bled.So it was clear that he was alive. All was good then.
Later on the zombies got rid of the bonies with the humans. The zombies learn to live again.Learn to smile, play and talk.Soon all the zombies slowly turn back to life. Also, the big strong wall to keep the zombies away from the humans were also demolished.
I know this doesn't make sense but I guess this movie is trying to tell us, Love brings the dead alive. Love brings hope. Love brings change. and finally, even the hopeless gets to love too. :))
Now that I found out that there is an exact same book with the same title warm bodies by Isaac Marion,I am dying to read it now.Really I don't care how weird the plot go,I just care about the story and the ending :')
I will give this movie a 5 star because I LOVE IT!
